Mr Prime Minister,
Sir, I m a Hindu by religion and a devout non vegetarian. I have been eating non veg since my childhood. For a staunch vegetarian, my statement could be little awkward and insulting as he\she wouldn't care whether I eat a goat, a cow or a bird... For them whatever has a life and blood shouldn't be killed and eaten. There are several communities in India who's food habits are predominantly vegetarian and there are few communities who cannot live without meat. Whatever little knowledge I have, I sincerely feel, the food habits are basically originated from the demographics of the region and has been there through ages. In India, as we were ruled by invanders for hundreds of years, food habits have significantly changed. Had Bahadur Shah Zafar been a strong ruler, we might have had Mughal rulers for another century and we would have happily followed the mughlai food habits. Had the Mughals been intolerant, non of the Hindus would have existed in Northern India. My Muslim and Christian bothers have been having meat since centuries the way my forefathers were having... The only difference is we are used to different animals But suddenly one day if somebody is forbidden to have something which someone was having years together will definitely affect his/her freedom and make him frustrated, weak and anguished. If tomorrow somebody asks me to stop eating goat, then definitely I will revolt and feel threatened. I m just trying to prove a point. Will beef ban become a Constitutional law which no ruling party can change. I personally treat cow and buffalo the same. Both offer milk. Though I understand, we worship cow, I feel buffalo shouldn't be demeaned just because it's black. Certain section of society will feel safe and relaxed if beef is banned. But if the government changes after 5 years, same section will feel threatened and insecure. As you know in democracy, its difficult to keep everybody happy. Just be honest, is beef ban a consensus among everybody. Don't you think its skewed or tilted towards one community. Coz a Jain, a Patel, a Brahmin, a Lingayat, a Marwari, an Iyer,an Iyenger, a Namboodri, or a Kulkarni or Shastri will never approve of anything which is non vegetarian. Can you ban everything tomorrow whatever they disapprove... Sir do you know why they aren't many inter religion marriages in our country, its mostly for food. Tomorrow if there is a demand from Muslim brothers to ban pork, will you allow it... Just like my feelings, lot of my coorgi brother will definitely get threatened. Sir humble request.. Please keep food out of politics... Food is a very personal choice. India is for everybody and food and cricket is our only religion... Let's first clean our mind than the nation Swachh Bharatiya is more important than Swachh Bharat Jai hind
